One Million

As of the end of May, our games Zombie Outbreak Simulator (ZOS) and Class 3 Outbreak (C3O) have now been played a total of 1 million times!

ZOS was released about 6 months ago, and is now at 665,000 plays, and C3O was released about 7 weeks ago and is now at 335,000 plays.

Zombie Outbreak Simulator - 665,000 plays

Class 3 Outbreak - 335,000 plays

It’s been about 4 months since I posted that ZOS reached half a million plays. Since that time ZOS has settled at around 1000 plays per day.

Like ZOS, C3O has now been played by most of the world (yellow means no plays from that country).

Class 3 Outbreak - Countries

The top ten countries are:

  1. Brazil – 18.2%
  2. United States – 14.0%
  3. China – 12.2%
  4. Norway – 11.7%
  5. Poland – 9.5%
  6. Japan – 4.8%
  7. United Kingdom – 3.3%
  8. Germany – 2.9%
  9. Denmark – 2.3%
  10. Canada – 1.8%

Building our game on top of Google Maps requires us to lock our game to specific websites. That is why ZOS only appeared on our site and later Kongregate. However the standard approach for Flash games is for them to spread virally over numerous portals.

Therefore, our plan for C3O included buying the imagery for Leicester and embedding it directly into the game. This allows that map to be played from any website, and C3O then links back to our site to play the original Google Maps based Washington map. So far C3O has spread to just under 600 websites. The large numbers for countries like Brazil, Norway and Poland have been due to the game featuring on a few large gaming sites in those countries.

Class 3 Outbreak Traffic

We initially released the game on our site only, and promoted it on our forum, Facebook page, and mailing list, to see whether we would get a similar response to ZOS. Not much happened :)

So a week later we created a new version for general distribution to portals. We uploaded it to Kongregate, Newgrounds, Flash Game Distribution, and Jay submitted our site to numerous other websites, all of which produced a good initial spike of traffic. Since then C3O has settled at around 4000 plays per day, with a few occasional spikes.

A few weeks ago we also submitted the site to Mochi Distribution. This seemed to have very little effect on the traffic, although it has had an obvious effect on the number of sites at which C3O is played each day:

Class 3 Outbreak Hosts

The 335,000 “plays” are actually counting the number of times which the game has been loaded. We also track the number of games played within a single session:

  • No plays at all (!): 22.3%
  • 1 play: 64.4%
  • 2 plays: 8.7%
  • 3 plays: 2.7%
  • 4 plays: 1.0%
  • 5 or more plays: 0.9%

Who are all these people who don’t like the look of the main menu enough to even play a single game? :)

At first glance these numbers seem pretty bad. However around 50% of our plays are from repeat visitors to our game. So a large percentage of those single plays (and maybe even some of the zero plays) are actually people who like the game enough to come back again another day.

Overall we’re quite happy with the reception to C3O so far, and we’re now busy working on even more features to make the next version of the game even better!

    he ya i got a couple idea but first congrats on a mill i know im prolly late but better late than never im from usa so we second most played lol… but you should add a swat unit and maybe on survival at about 20 minutes you should bring in reinforcements and stuf like the military also they should have other units like a single cop should have a machine gun while 2 cops get a shotgun and a pistol while the third unit only gets pistols also maybe add a ability to find guns in survival mode maybe a random turret spawn in a place to give the police an even bigger advantage. an another idea why not make he zombies swarm after the police when they find the police. let them gather in numbers before they attack so they seem smarter and it will be a lot harder to survive. well thank you or reading this if you did:-}

absaloutly LOVED class 3 outbreak. best online rtm, not to mention best zombie game. hope that you make a sequal, and hopefully you add more maps. also, id love a sandbox mode like in zombie outbreak sim, where you control the infection stats, and also control your police.

  11. DannyDaNinja says:

Hello Binary space can you please tell me ( and possibly give me a link ) to where you found your zombie sounds/noises?

  12. Jay says:

    Sure, its freesound.org

hey, i really love Class 3 Outbreak, but something i found, was that police pistols aren’t good. i was wondering if you could add things like Soldiers and Commandos. also, the ability to drive vehicles would be really nice, although hard to put in probably. all of these are suggestions, not demands. feel free to COMPLETLY ignore me :D

i once played the game c3o for over an hour or so with my police force in a house….i then planned to kill all zombies on the map, this is in survival mode, and i lost two and was left with the biggest squad, 3 police! but they died too.

  15. l4d fanatic says:

hey ty i love that idea maybe they could add army forces and maybe some barricade options but the multiplayer is a great idea!

what if the other person could control zombies!!!?

    wouldnt that be awsome?

    congratz on the 1 million

i good update would be to add better wepons army units tamks and stuff like that there should also be like a defend mode were you have a inpenatrable
base and you have kill all zombies you start of with one squad and every 30 second you get points to spend on troops upgrads turrets and you have get rid of infection and every 5 minutes more zombies come and there should be leaderbords for people who clear out infection fastests

  17. Parker says:

I have a quick question. Would it be possible for police units to train civilains how to use a gun? Good job on the one million.

  18. Ryan says:

for a update you should make civilians rescuable and also… california map <:)

  19. Shaun says:

I agree with Ryan in a way, at the current moment in time, Civilians just wander around aimlessly getting infected, if you could do things with them such as add them to your squad, afterwhich you could take them to a depot of some kind. There they can recieve guns and they can become a squad. The drawback of this would be that people would make an army as soon as htye can, however, it is unlikely they will get very far as the zombies seem to wipe out civilians pretty quickly. It would also be better if it used a drag box instead of a squad, its annoying when you want to send a certain amount of police officers out and you have to select different groups and everything. Congratulations on the one million by the way, these are some of my favourite internet games. :)

wow hasent it gone to 1.5 milin by now?

  22. joey says:

Feal free to ignore this but I think more units would be awsome, I think the civilians should be smarter being able to use vehicles would help, locking and barricading doors would make it funner, more maps would be fun (a new york one would be sweet), you should add multiplayer and civilians should be armed with either guns or melee wepons

    Congratulations!
Wait, Brazil is the country who plays the most your zombie games? Yay, I’m part of the majority! I’m from Argentina, but I live in Brazil since I was 3. :D So since it’s the country where most people play your games, you should make a Brazil’s city’s map. :D
